Tennessee Safari Park is a drive-through safari park and walk-through zoo located in Alamo, Tennessee. The family-run attraction lets visitors drive their own vehicles through exhibits where exotic animals approach to be fed, and also features a walk-through zoo area with petting and feeding experiences. The park maintains a large collection of animals from around the world and presents itself with an educational and conservation-focused mission, aiming “to bring appreciation and conservational awareness for all living things.”
Attractions
The park’s two main experiences are a 7.5-mile drive-through safari and a 20-acre walk-through zoo. On the drive-through portion, guests stay in their vehicles while animals approach the windows, and visitors can feed many of the exotic animals directly from their cars. The walk-through zoo includes a petting zoo with pygmy goats, a giraffe hand-feeding station, a parakeet landing with free-flight birds, a squirrel monkey tunnel exhibit, and a seasonal sloth barn featuring sloths and prehensile-tailed porcupines. Animals across the park include bison, Damara zebras, antelope, peafowl, pheasants, deer, wallabies, kookaburras, cranes, and foxes, among many others. Feed cups for the animals are sold on site at $3 each or four for $10.
About
Tennessee Safari Park operates as a family business on Hillcrest, a century farm that the Conley family has owned since 1858. The park itself was established in 2007 to showcase rare and endangered species. The family’s animal collection began with pheasants and peafowl, expanded to include bison in 1963, described as Tennessee’s first privately-owned bison, and added Damara zebras in 1980 along with various rare antelope through the following decades. The park today describes its holdings as “one of the largest collections of zoo animals in the United States.”
