Greko Greek Street Food is a family-owned Greek restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee, specializing in Greek street food and Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant offers counter-service dining built around a live-fire grill in an open kitchen, with a covered outdoor patio, as well as take-away, delivery, and catering. The concept draws on “traditional street-side eateries” from the owners’ childhoods in Greece, and the restaurant aims to bring “authentic flavors of Greece” to Nashville, which it calls “the Athens of the South.”
Menu
Greko’s menu centers on live-fire grilling, souvlaki skewers, pita, and house-made spreads. Representative items include:
- Pita and spreads: Table Pita (grilled pita, Greek olive oil, herbs); Hummus, or Revithosalata (Greek-style hummus with grilled pita); Tzatziki (Greek yogurt, dill, cucumber, garlic, Greek olive oil); and Feta Spread, or Tirokafteri (Greek feta, roasted red pepper, Aleppo).
- Souvlaki skewers: Pork Souvlaki (heritage breed pork collar); Beef Souvlaki (house-ground, dry-aged beef brisket and chuck); Shrimp Souvlaki (tiger shrimp with peppers and onions); Swordfish Souvlaki; and Octopus Souvlaki.
- Live Fire Grill plates: options including pork, chicken, beef, lamb, veggie, and shrimp, served with pita, salad, or rice.
- Sides: Peasant Rice, or Ryzi (jasmine rice with wild greens and lemon); Greko Street Fries (seasoned with oregano and mizithra cheese); and Village Salad, or Horiatiki (tomato, cucumber, olives, feta).
- Drinks and dessert: Greek wines, Greek and domestic beers, soft drinks, and Baklava made locally by Sweet Armenia.
The restaurant highlights hand-formed pitas grilled to order, house-made dips and dressings, and olive oil and wines imported directly from Nemea, Greece, the owners’ native village.
About
Greko is described as the “collective vision of the next generation” of a multi-generational restaurant family. According to the restaurant’s story, founders Angelo Darsinos and Spiro Darsinos emigrated from Nemea, Greece to Nashville and launched Gondola Pizza in the 1970s, building more than 40 years of hospitality experience in Middle Tennessee. The menu and design draw on recipes from the family’s grandmother, “Yia-Yia,” and on cooking techniques from food carts in their village. The space features large pull-up windows and “bright, cheerful” graffiti walls, with artwork by artist Eric “Mobe” Base referencing Greek mythology, including Poseidon, Athena, and the Greek owl symbol.
