About
The history of the Catholic Church in East Nashville began with Catholics who crossed the Cumberland River for Midnight Mass on December 24, 1854, and afterward petitioned Bishop Richard Pius Miles for a church in what was then the Edgefield area. The same area saw three Catholic churches under three names: St. John the Evangelist, built in 1857; St. Columba, erected in 1873 and later rebuilt after the 1916 East Nashville fire; and the Church of the Most Holy Name, which followed in 1917. The parish states that it strives “to be a vibrant, welcoming community of faith.” Its current pastor is Rev. Fr. Theophilus (Theo) Ebulueme, supported by Deacon Rev. Mr. Robert L. Mahoney and a parish office staff.
