Dessert Designs was started in 1971 by Leland Riggan, who began selling her first cakes, breads, and other desserts to locals from her home through word of mouth only. Her late husband Steve joined shortly after, bringing business savvy plus an artistic touch to design and cake decoration. The couple incorporated their business in 1991. The website describes the bakery as a true mom and pop establishment, still run by family and friends, and frames the business as a labour of love that would turn a dream into a destiny of making delicious cakes for not only Nashvillians, but people all across the country.
