About
According to the venue’s history page, the building first opened in 1883 as a flour mill operated by Liberty Mills. It was later converted into a coffee mill by Fletcher Coffee Company in the 1930s, and in 1957 was purchased for Dale Foods Company, which processed food items there until 1974. In 1981, it reopened as “The Cannery,” an 18,000-square-foot restaurant and entertainment venue. In subsequent decades the building housed several music venues, including Mercy Lounge (2003), the Cannery Ballroom (2005), and The High Watt (2012). The site notes that the property was acquired by Thor Equities Group and DZL Management in 2019, with DZL Management becoming sole owner in 2020. Original brick walls were retained for both aesthetic and acoustic reasons.
